Our approach to cleaning your wedding dress
Your wedding gown will always be one of your most precious possessions. It is a symbol of one of life’s major events and should be treated with special care. Whether you are borrowing it from a relative, buying a samples dress or buying it new, your gown deserves professional attention. The key to beautifully cleaning and preserving your wedding dress is to begin the process as soon as possible. That way, stains will not have time to set, which makis es it much more difficult to achieve complete stain removal.
We use the following approach:
Inspection: All dresses are thoroughly inspected and a written evaluation is completed during our check in process. Notes are made regarding fabrication, existing damage and stain identification. The best cleaning approach is determined.
Wedding dresses are cleaned by us, at our premises in Dublin. Many dry cleaners take in wedding gowns from customers for cleaning, restoration and preservation but perhaps because of lack of technical skills and/or experience, they do not do the work themselves. This means that your dress is sent off site and the business you trusted with your bridal gown, is not the company that performs the work!
Hand finishing: Your wedding dress is gently and completely hand pressed to perfection. During this, we take extreme care to follow the designer’s line and drape. Their designs as well as embroideries, pearls, beads and sequins, require experienced hand finishing that only truly dedicated experts have the skill and knowledge to provide. At Elegant Cleaners, we treat each gown with the same care we would lavish on our own family heirlooms.
Wedding dress boxing: Vacuum bags , any plastic garment bags damage wedding dresses . Your finished wedding dress is placed in a 100% acid-free archival-quality wedding chest. Our archival-quality 100% acid-free tissue paper is then placed in all the folds of your gown.
How long does all of this take?
We aim to have your dress cleaned and pressed in 6-8 weeks. Sometimes we manage to get it done quicker – especially if you ask us to prioritise it and sometimes it can take a few weeks longer. Make sure to let us know if you need your dress for any reason within a specific timeframe.
